چکیده

By colliding ultrarelativistic ions, one achieves presently energy densities close to the critical value, concerning the formation of a quark-gluon-plasma. This indicates the importance of fluctuations and the necessity to go beyond the investigation of average events. Therefore, we introduce a percolation approach to model the final stage (τ > 1 fm/c) of ion-ion collisions, the initial stage being treated by well-established methods, based on strings and Pomerons. The percolation approach amounts to finding high density domains, and treating them as quark-matter droplets. In this way, we have a realistic, microscopic, and Monte–Carlo based model which allows for the formation of quark matter. We find that even at SPS energies large quark-matter droplets are formed – at a low rate though. In other words: large quark-matter droplets are formed due to geometrical fluctuation, but not in the average event.

Anisotropic flow of K's, K's, and Λ's is studied in heavy ion collisions at SPS and RHIC energies within the microscopic quark-gluon string model. At SPS energy the directed flow of kaons differs considerably at midrapidity from that of antikaons, while at RHIC energy kaon and antikaon flows coincide. The change is attributed to formation of dense meson-dominated matter at RHIC, where the diffe...

New results of the NA49 collaboration on strange particle production are presented. Rapidity and transverse mass spectra as well as total multiplicities are discussed. The study of their evolution from AGS over SPS to the highest RHIC energy reveals a couple of interesting features. These include a sudden change in the energy dependence of the m t-spectra and of the yields of strange hadrons ar...

A Hydro+Cascade model has been used to describe radial and elliptic flow at the SPS and successfully predicted the radial and elliptic flow measured by the both STAR and PHENIX collaborations. Furthermore, a combined description of the radial and elliptic flow for different particle species, restricts the Equation of State(EoS) and points towards an EoS with a phase transition to the Quark Gluo...

The phase diagram of nuclear matter offers fascinating features for heavy ion physics and astrophysics when extended to strangeness and antimatter. We will discuss some regions of this phase diagram as strange matter at zero temperature, hypermatter at high densities and the antiworld at high densities and strangeness fraction. 1 Strange Matter and Hypermatter Relativistic heavy ion collisions ...

The double-dipole strength distribution in 40 Ca is calculated microscopically within a model space of 1p1h-and 2p2h excitations. Anharmonic effects in the centroid energies of the 0 +-and 2 + components are found to be small, in agreement with experimental observation. Firm conclusions about the spreading width cannot be drawn, as yet, due to computational limitations in the number of 2p2h sta...
